'Stop spreading claims of plot to topple unity govt'
Ilham Centre’s Hisomuddin Bakar said the statement by the community communications department, or J-Kom, on the alleged ‘Dubai Move’ may cast a negative light on the current administration.
PETALING JAYA: Claims about a concerted effort to topple the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim must not be made by a government department or agency, says an analyst.

Referring to the claim made by the community communications department, or J-Kom, on the alleged “Dubai Move” by the opposition, Hisomuddin Bakar of Ilham Centre said it may cast a negative light on the current administration.

He said caution must be exercised to avoid becoming trapped in the political manoeuvres of certain parties.

“The statement issued (by J-Kom) amounts to nothing more than a rumour because there is no evidence or strong basis to support it,” he told FMT.

“At the same time, it could be interpreted as a sign of vulnerability in this Madani government. Government agencies like J-Kom should not be affected by any attempt to undermine the government.”

Speculation over the “Dubai Move” arose following discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives during their recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.

J-Kom deputy director-general Ismail Yusop was later reported by Berita Harian as saying that the meeting was held to identify MPs who might be persuaded to switch support to the opposition in an effort to take over Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, Awang Azman Awang Pawi of Universiti Malaya said J-Kom seemed to have succumbed to a “fairy tale” created by certain quarters for their own agenda.

“The statement resembles a fairy tale spread through word of mouth, essentially serving as propaganda to instil fear among government supporters.

“J-Kom appears keen to ‘block’ it, even though it (Dubai Move) has yet to be verified,” he said.
