SABAH witnessed significant environmental challenges in 2023 with drastic weather changes, from severe floods to scorching heat waves triggered by intensified climate change effects.
The State’s perennial flood woes are not new.
However, the year started off with flash floods described as the worst in 10 years last January, affecting many coastal low-lying areas from Sipitang to Lahad Datu and Northern Sabah.
It caused hundreds of residents and communities to be displaced, cutting off road connectivity to these areas and causing power outages.
