SANDAKAN: Karamunting Assemblyman Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin has reminded villagers in Karamunting to quickly notify their village chief or his team if they come across a damaged bridge in their respective areas.
He said this after inspecting a bridge that had collapsed near here at Jambatan 6 Kg Bokara.
He said the 50-foot bridge had cracked and collapsed.
He decided to close the bridge to safeguard the people’s safety.
“Residents here are advised to use other bridges first while waiting for this bridge to be repaired,” he said in a statement, recently.
George said residents in the Karamunting area should also be the eyes and ears, reporting any collapsed or broken bridges to his Karamunting Assemblyman Task Force Team promptly so that urgent action such as closing the bridge might be taken to avoid accidents.
Meanwhile, George notified Sandakan Municipal Council officials about the collapsed bridge and urged it to be fixed as soon as possible.
"I know the residents of Kg Bokara who are affected have to use a longer route to get home,” he said.
“I hope they are patient and don’t take the risk of using the damaged bridge,” he said.
