BEAUFORT: Education on safety and fire prevention procedures should begin at an early age said, Beaufort Fire and Rescue station chief, Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok.

"Children are the target group who should be advised against abusing lighters to burn flammable objects,” he said.

He said this after educating 40 children from Pusat Anak Permata Beaufort during a field trip to the station recently.

Muhammad Hasbullah said practical training is better absorbed by children as they remember and automatically act on the teachings.

“It’s important for them to know where to gather in the event of a fire. Additionally, they may also teach their parents what to do especially if it happens in their house,” he added.

At the end of the event, the kids got the chance to board a fire truck and were sprinkled a fireman’s hose.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Hasbullah encouraged childcare centres or learning institutions to carry out field trips at the Beaufort station.
