Kota Kinabalu: Newly-appointed Kota Kinabalu Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah is ready to hit the ground running and work towards improving the City Hall’s services.

“I am excited to be appointed Mayor in the State that I was born,” he said after a walkabout at some of the open food courts, here, Thursday.

“I aspire to give the best service…the City Hall had previously been led by credible mayors.

“I am sure I, together with the other staff, can enhance the City Hall’s services and improve its effectiveness.”

On the walkabout, Sabin said he and the City Hall’s top management could observe the current situation of the spots frequented by domestic and foreign visitors.

“We want to know the facilities that the City Hall can further provide, and we did the observation earlier so that we can take the right actions.

“There is still room for improvement, especially in terms of improving the cleanliness of these areas. To realise this, the City Hall needs the cooperation from the traders’ associations.

“They (the associations) have given their cooperation and I am confident they will continue to work with us,” he said.

He said among the grouses voiced out by the traders was the unstable water supply.

“They informed me that water supply shortages happened during peak hours which forced them to stay up late at night to collect water.”

He said the traders also complained about thefts at the unlit areas of their premises.

“City Hall will take the initiative to improve the security level in these areas,” he said.

Sabin is the third Kota Kinabalu mayor from Ranau. The other two mayors from Ranau were Datuk Abidin Madingkir (the third mayor of KK) and Datuk Nordin Siman (the fifth mayor of KK).

Sabin replaced the City’s sixth mayor, Datuk Norliza Awang Alip, who is also the first female mayor.
