Measures taken by GRS to deal with power tariffs: PBS
Arthur (left) also claimed that Justin (right) had exaggeratedly accused the GRS Government of failing to govern Sabah only because the Sabah Government did not object to the increase in electricity tariffs.
Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Vice President Datuk Arthur Sen said the GRS Government had taken necessary measures in dealing with the electricity tariffs paid to customers in the State.

He said the successful steps taken by the GRS Government could be seen when the Sabah State Legislative Assembly special sitting on Wednesday passed three Bills related to the Sabah Government assuming regulatory control over power supply from the Federal Government.

With a majority of votes cast, the Sabah Energy Commission (Amendment) Bill 2024, the Sabah Renewable Energy Bill 2024, and the Electricity Supply Bill 2024 were all approved.

“This way, we no longer need to bark and protest whether the price of electricity is covered or not,” Arthur said in a statement here on Wednesday.

“When we have authority, we can control and regulate without having to protest. This method is better than the method used by Parti Warisan through its Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Justin Wong, who opted to protest,” he said.

He made the remarks in reaction to statements by Warisan’s Tanjong Aru Assemblyman Datuk Junz Wong and Justin during the State Legislative Assembly special sitting.

“Junz made various negative accusations against the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Minister in response said it is unfair to accuse the officer since he could not defend himself against the allegations made by the Tanjong Aru Assemblyman at the special sitting,” said Arthur.

Arthur also claimed that Justin had exaggeratedly accused the GRS Government of failing to govern Sabah only because the Sabah Government did not object to the increase in electricity tariffs.

“The Sri Tanjong Assemblyman failed to understand that the tariff increase is only for electricity users who use more than 1,500 units of KW or RM700 at the current price. For usage above 1,500 KW a surcharge of 7.2 sen per unit will apply,” he said.

“Who actually failed? Warisan governed the State for 26 months but did not take over the regulatory of power supply. Now their assemblymen insists on using the method of protesting.

“The conclusion is that the GRS Government has successfully taken over the power to control and regulate Sabah’s electricity supply as stipulated under MA63. The GRS Government doesn’t simply talk but actually does something to make it happen as proven at the special sitting,” he said.
