SANDAKAN: A 23-year-old woman sustained injuries after her Perodua Myvi crashed into a tree, causing it to fall and block half of the road at Jalan Lintas Sibuga Batu 8, here, Wednesday.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief Severinus @ Mohd Nizam Sainkui said a rescue team led by Hasmizan Maksit rushed to the scene following a 12.23pm distress call.
“Members of the public helped the woman out of the vehicle before the team arrived,” he said.
The team applied first aid on the woman who was sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for further treatment.
The team also removed the fallen tree that was blocking the road.
The operation ended at 12.55pm after the team made sure there was no further danger.
In a separate case, a 20-tonne lorry carrying sand, a 6-tonne lorry carrying cooking gas cylinders, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Toyota Vigo Single Cab collided at Batu 36 Jalan Telupid-Sandakan, on Wednesday.
Beluran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Edoen Machael said firefighters were deployed to the scene some 30km away following a 12.12pm distress call.
Nobody was injured in the accident and all the drivers got out of their vehicles on their own prior to the team’s arrival.
Edoen said no operation was carried out and that the team only took case information about the accident.
The accident also caused traffic congestion along the main route linking Sandakan, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.
The impact also caused some of the cooking gas cylinders to fall onto the road.
