Tenom: Leaders, entrepreneurs and consumers in the Interior welcomed the Distribution of Essential Goods, LPG and Community Drumming Point of Sale (PoS to PoS) Programme implemented by the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry (KPDN).
Sabah Urban Development Corporation (SUDC) Chairman Datuk Jamawi Jaffar said this programme was seen to be very timely in reducing expenses to buy daily necessities for people in rural areas.
Jamawi, who is also the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Melalap Division Chief, also hoped the programme would continuously be implemented because it helps to reduce the burden of the household heads (KIR), especially in the Interior.
He was commenting on KPDN Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali’s statement Monday regarding the Distribution of Essential Goods, LPG and Community Drumming Point of Sale (PoS to PoS) Programme.
Armizan said a total of RM225 million has been allocated for the programme this year in Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan Terengganu, Pahang and Kedah. He said of the figure, RM79.7 million was allocated to implement the programme in Sabah.
Jamawi thanked the Minister and the Government for continuing such a programme that makes it easier for people in rural areas to get supplies of essential goods, especially diesel, petrol, cooking gas and other controlled goods such as flour, sugar and so on.
Meanwhile, a grocery store operator Jalimah Abdul Rahman said this programme can help rural people including the villagers.
He said that with this programme they can buy essential items such as rice, sugar and others, besides being able to generate income for retailers in the villages,” he added.
A villager Ambrose Samuel said this programme is very beneficial for those living outside the city because it can ease the burden of the increasing costs of living.
He also hoped that the programme would continue for the benefit and convenience of all residents outside the city.
A total of seven daily necessities are sold at every PoS registered under this programme, including rice, sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil, gas, petrol (RON 95) and diesel at reasonable prices.
