SANDAKAN: Sandakan Warisan Division Deputy Head Alex Wong said return flight tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah are still pricey even though the government announced that a one-way ticket in conjunction with Chinese New Year will be RM348.
Alex who is also Special Officer to Elopura Assemblyman said a return ticket would be RM700 and that this is a huge sum that not all users could afford.
According to him, roundtrip tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah are still expensive, particularly for individuals who are students or have low-paying jobs in Peninsular Malaysia.
“Some are unable to return to Sabah for the Chinese New Year celebration due to the costly flight ticket,” he said in a statement, here, Tuesday.
He believed that if Warisan is granted the mandate to govern again in the upcoming elections they will take the issue of the cost of plane tickets to Sabah and Kuala Lumpur during the holiday season seriously.
“For instance, Sabahans who work or study in the peninsular will be able to purchase air tickets at significantly reduced costs and have the chance to celebrate the festive season with their families back home thanks to direct subsidies from the State Government,” he said.
He said Warisan implemented numerous beneficial programmes while they were in power, adding that people of different races have their rights and interests protected.
He felt that the problem of the pricey return flight tickets from the Peninsular to Sabah would have been appropriately resolved if Warisan had been granted more time and opportunity to exercise power.
He also said that Dec 24 was designated as a public holiday in Sabah during Warisan’s tenure as the State Government and that the people’s rights to land ownership were also granted during Warisan’s tenure.
“Warisan, in only 22 months, brought about many new developments and changes in Sabah,” he said.
