Flag campaign launched to mark FT Day

LABUAN: Labuan marked the commencement of Federal Territory Day (FT Day) 2024 with the launch of the Federal Territories Hoisting Flag Campaign, Saturday. 

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the Department of Federal Territories has designed a series of programmes to ensure the success of this year’s FT Day, coinciding with the 50-year anniversary of the establishment of the Federal Territories.

“The hoisting of the Federal Territories Flag Campaign is the signature programme of the annual FT Day. 

“It is our fervent wish to witness government and private premises joining us in celebrating FT Day by proudly hoisting the flag,” she said at the Labuan-level Federal Territories Hoisting Flag Campaign Labuan 2024 and the Publicity and Public Participation Programme of the Labuan 2040 Structure Plan Report at Taman Damai, here, Saturday.

Zaliha said this initiative is part of the broader festivities planned to commemorate the historical significance of the Federal Territories.

“The year 2024 not only marks the golden jubilee of the Federal Territories but also serves as an opportunity for the community to reflect on the progress and achievements of the regions over the past five decades,” she said.

Zaliha said the Federal Territories Hoisting Flag Campaign encourages public and private institutions to actively participate in the celebrations by displaying the Federal Territories flag.

She emphasised the importance of unity in expressing patriotism and encouraged citizens to come together to make this year’s FT Day a memorable and meaningful occasion.

As part of the 50-year anniversary celebration, the Department of Federal Territories has organised various events and activities throughout the year, aiming to engage the community and showcase the unique identity and development of Labuan, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur.

She said the Federal Territories Day, observed annually on February 1, is a momentous occasion for residents to celebrate the history, achievements, and future prospects of the Federal Territories. 

“The call to hoist the flag resonates as a symbol of unity and pride, inviting everyone to participate in the festivities and express their deep connection to the Federal Territories,” she said.
