Kota Kinabalu: SOME 10,000 people are expected to attend the State Chinese New Year celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Feb 10.
Organising chairperson Datuk Christina Liew, who is also State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, said the event hosted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor would be held from 11am to 2pm.
She invited the public to attend the joyous occasion in celebrating the cultural vibrancy and diversity that Sabah has to offer, with Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his consort Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni as guests of honour.
“The State Government had also invited Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to attend the event,” she told a press conference here, Monday.
Liew said the event aims to showcase Sabah’s rich cultural diversity and fostering unity and harmony among its people.
“This year’s celebration will be themed around the Chinese zodiac’s auspicious Year of the Dragon.
“The event promises a spectacular showcase of cultural performances, including lion dances, a firecracker show and a cultural exhibition, as well as singing and dancing performances by local artists,” she said.
She also said the organisers are discussing with the venue’s parking service provider to arrange free parking for attendees during the event. Liew disclosed they would also look into the possibility of providing shuttle busses to the venue.
Also present at the press conference were the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Josie Lai and Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) president Tan Sri TC Goh.
