Kota Kinabalu: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has urged all party leaders to think about the country’s best interests amid purported plans to unseat the government through the so-called “Dubai Move”.
“Why create confusion and uncertainty in Malaysia? Why the need to sow discord?” said Hajiji in an FMT interview. “Let’s not prioritise our political agendas. Let’s put the country first,” the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman said.
Hajiji reiterated his unwavering support for the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who marked his first term in office in November.
“We support Anwar because we want political stability. I can see that he has introduced good policies for the future of Malaysia, policies that will transform Malaysia into a developed country in years to come,” he said.
Speculation over the “Dubai Move” arose following discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives during a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting was allegedly aimed at dividing tasks among “agents” to identify MPs who could switch support to the opposition to form a new government.
Earlier this month, Anwar played down the rumoured efforts to topple the government, saying it had no impact on his administration and that he wanted to focus on developing the country and looking after the people.
Hajiji said where Sabah was concerned, there was no question over its support for Anwar, despite the claim by Sanusi Nor of Perikatan Nasional that the opposition has enough statutory declarations to take over Putrajaya.
“It (Sanusi’s claim) won’t become a reality because the unity government enjoys the support of more than 150 MPs, including those MPs from PN.”
Last year, five Bersatu MPs pledged their support for Anwar and his administration.
Previously, Hajiji said the Sabah government has good relations with Putrajaya and that those seeking to become prime minister should wait for elections to see if the people supported them.
