Kota Kinabalu: University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to offer a Bachelor Degree in Architecture Programme in Sabah.
Through the MOA, USIM will work together to help build the curriculum and offer the Bachelor Degree in Architecture Programme for UCSF until it achieves accreditation.
UCSF Vice-Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris said the cooperation agreement opens a wide space for the production of skilled and professional workforce for the future in the field of architecture.
He hopes that the programme can be offered in less than a year.
“The Architecture Bachelor’s Degree programme can complement the needs of Sabah in addition to providing an alternative or additional menu for higher education courses for young Sabahans.
“By offering this course, UCSF will be the first university in Sabah to offer a Bachelor’s Degree course in the field of architecture,” he added.
Dr Rafiq also suggested that the theme of Borneo architecture be one of the subjects to be offered in the future.
“This will make this course unique with the rich culture and architecture of the various races in Sabah,” he said.
According to the UCSF Chairman of the Board of Management and Board of Directors Datuk Mohd Yaakub Hj Johari, this is one of the ways that UCSF can help in complementing and speeding up efforts to meet the State’s human capital needs in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda.
Meanwhile, the USIM Vice Chancellor Prof Dato Ts Dr Syarifudin said this is a historic point for cooperation between IPTS-IPTA in enshrining the national higher education agenda, especially for Sabah, with UCSF offering the first bachelor’s degree programme in architecture in Sabah and Borneo with the assistance by USIM.
Also present were the Pro-Chancellor of UCSF Dato’ Sri Gulamhaidar Khan Bahadar and key officials of both universities.
