Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Sports Council will seek to improve the Sabah Games (Saga) in future following a post mortem meeting with 23 delegates on the shortcomings of the 10th biennial games which was held in December.
This was revealed by Sabah Tennis Association (STA) president Johnson Koh who was among the attendees at the meeting recently.
He said various issues were raised during the discussion such as the distribution of drinking water, parking problems in town areas and on the suggestion of an increase in allowances for officials, while he had voiced out the less than satisfactory condition of the venues.
“I have suggested Sabah Sports Council and Sabah Sports Board officers to check on the condition of the venues involved in the district early to see any upgrading needed.
“This is because one of the main objectives of Saga is to scout for young talents and I believe a good facility is very important to ensure that these athletes will be able to perform at their best to showcase their talents.
“I am also pleased to note that it was a very positive meeting. Sabah Sports Council has assured us that action will be taken and they will look into the suggestions raised by the delegates,” he said.
Meanwhile, all the tennis matches were held at the Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex over five days during the Sabah Games.
Four events were staged and Kota Kinabalu clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles through Samuel B Guansing and Kyra Vamsikrish respectively as well as the women’s team title while the men’s team title was won by Sandakan.
Kota Kinabalu were the overall winners with three gold and two silver medals followed by Sandakan with one gold and three bronzes and Keningau in third place with one silver and one bronze.
