Church fire causes Christians in Beaufort to flee 
The main switch board of the church destroyed by fire.
BEAUFORT: A total of 74 people, who were praying inside a church, panicked when saw smoke in the prayer room and the switch box of St Valentine’s Church on fire at Kg Jempangah, near here, on Tuesday.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said they immediately fled the scene.

He said firefighters received an emergency call at 7.59pm on Jan 16 and rushed two fire engines with 10 firefighters to the scene.

 When the firefighters arrived at the scene they found that 10 per cent of the distribution switch box was burned.

On Monday, some 10 personnel of Fire and Rescue Station here cleared a tree that fell on a road at Kg Lumadan and vehicles could not pass.

The fallen tree was caused by strong wind, he said.

Muhammad Hasbullah said the public also helped the firemen to remove the tree.
