MOSCOW: A passenger plane crashed in Afghanistan, Afghan news agency Pajhwok reported on Sunday, citing local officials, reported Sputnik.
The crash occurred in a mountainous area of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the report read.
The Falcon 10 plane was carrying six people, four crew members and two passengers, Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) said on Sunday.
The plane had deviated from its original course, Afghan news agency Khaama Press reported.
"Preliminary: There were six people on board the aircraft — four crew members and two passengers," the agency said on Telegram.
The aircraft, registered in the State Register of Civil Aircraft of Russia, stopped making contact and disappeared from radar screens on Saturday evening while in the airspace of Afghanistan near the border with Tajikistan, the agency added.
The aircraft was performing charter ambulance flight en route from Gaya (India) to Zhukovsky (Russia), the authorities said.
Rosaviatsiya is in contact with the aviation authorities of Afghanistan and Tajikistan, it said, adding that the search for the aircraft was underway.
