PENAMPANG: A 39-year-old woman who mistook her Toyota Vios gas pedal for the brake ended up taking a Proton Iswara along for a crash into a water filter store in Plaza Mahkota, Putatan, Monday.

In the 11.30am incident, the woman who was said to have parked her car in an opposite lot rammed it into the backside of the Iswara, pushing it into the store.

The male Iswara driver, 56, said he had parked there for less than 15 minutes before the incident.

A glass display case, among other fixtures, were destroyed. The owner, only known as Loong, said it was the first for him after being in business for seven years.

He estimated losses of up to RM1,500.

“Luckily, we were on the left side of the store during the accident,” he said.

Penampang District Police Chief DSP Sammy Newton said no casualties were reported and the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59) for failing to control the vehicle, causing an accident.

He advised the public not to upload any false information on social media platforms to avoid misunderstandings which could cause unrest.
