Datuk, ex-minister's aide among 4 businessmen arrested
Three of the suspects were arrested at the MACC headquarters last night while the fourth was detained in Shah Alam.
PETALING JAYA: Four businessmen, including a former political secretary to an ex-minister and a ‘Datuk’, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

An MACC source said they were arrested on suspicion of receiving kickbacks from several companies and contractors who were awarded a tender from a government ministry.

The source said the main suspect, who previously worked as a political secretary to a former minister, had solicited and accepted bribes to ensure the contractors would be awarded the tender.

“All four men are believed to have received bribes from several companies and contractors, who were awarded a tender worth millions of ringgit from a ministry around 2020 to 2021.

“The suspects were arrested between 7pm and 8.30pm last night. Three of them were detained at the MACC headquarters after giving their statements, while the fourth was detained in Shah Alam.”

Three of the suspects are under remand until Jan 27 while the other suspect is remanded till Jan 26.

When contacted, MACC intelligence division director Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the arrests and said more individuals might be summoned to assist in investigations.
