Kota Kinabalu: Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said City Hall (DBKK) will open 15 Ramadan bazaar locations this year. They include night market sites and parking areas repurposed as temporary bazaar sites.
“The main Ramadan bazaar locations around the city include Deasoka Intersection (Jalan Gaya), Tanjung Aru, Sembulan, Damai and Taman Indah Permai.
“However, DBKK is considering opening a new location near Padang Merdeka due to the relatively encouraging demand from traders.
“This proposed location will provide an opportunity for traders and visitors to the Ramadan bazaar to buy food and then break their fast in the area.
“It is estimated that more than 1,000 stalls will be offered to traders, which will be open from 2pm to 7pm,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Head of State
Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his consort Toh Puan Norlidah R.M Jasni at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Wednesday.
The visit aimed to introduce Sabin as the seventh Mayor, replacing Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, effective January 2.
Sabin, 63, previously served as the Director-General of the National Financial Crime Prevention Centre (NFCC) and has 40 years of experience as a public servant.
Also present during the visit were Sabin’s wife Datin Seri Adreen Aderizza Mohamad Soffi, DBKK Director-General Junaina Abbe and senior officials.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Association of Sabah Oath Commissioners led by Chung Kee Shyong also paid a courtesy call on Juhar.
The visit aimed to inform Juhar about the organisation’s role and to seek his views on how Commissioners of Oaths can assist, particularly in addressing the issue of late birth registration experienced by many local rural residents.
