PETALING JAYA: Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin said he will be charged in the Kuala Lumpur sessions court on Jan 29.
He said his lawyers have informed him that he will face a charge under Section 36(2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, an offence related to disclosure of assets.
“I look forward to my day in court,” he said in a statement.
Daim said MACC officers recorded a statement from him on Friday.
Last week, his wife, Naimah Khalid, pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur sessions court to one count under the same law for allegedly failing to comply with the terms of an asset declaration notice from MACC.
She is accused of failing to declare her ownership of companies, several plots of land here and in Penang, as well as two vehicles.
Earlier this month, MACC said it had summoned Naimah and her sons, Amir and Amin, to provide information on assets belonging to the family.
The anti-graft agency was reported to have issued a notice to Daim under Section 36(1)(a) of the MACC Act in June last year.
MACC chief Azam Baki was reported as saying that Daim was supposed to have been charged last week, but he had been hospitalised.
