Outgoing Agong’s legacy is promoting unity: Upko

Kota Kinabalu: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s legacy lies in promoting unity among Malaysians.

United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation President Datuk Ewon Benedick said His Majesty’s decree that unity should be at the core of our federal government is a testament to his dedication to the nation’s interests.

Ewon, who is also Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives minister, said the political upheaval and frequent changes in government leadership within a short period have significantly impacted economic development, progress, and the governance of the nation.

“Hence, His Majesty has commanded that the nation’s interests must be prioritised and achieved through unity among all citizens.

“The King’s active participation in customary events during the expedition endeared him to the people and deepened their loyalty to the monarchy and the country.”

Ewon said His Majesty had also conveyed a message “take care of Sabah” to him during a farewell ceremony during the Borneo expedition.

“I will continue to uphold the legacy of His Majesty and act upon his royal command to initiate the best for our country.

“The Royal Institution plays a significant role in the parliamentary democracy system, a constitutional monarchy.

“The people hold this institution in high regard, and we will continue to pledge allegiance to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the Head of State. Long live His Majesty.”
