Kota Kinabalu: Music Rights Sabah (MRS), the collective management organisation (CMO) for Sabah and Labuan artists, has completed its first-ever royalty distribution benefitting 119 member artists for 1,011 songs.
MRS Managing Director Mohd Ashraf Abdullah said that as of Jan 1, the body has 472 registered members – including five recording companies with 3,486 local ethnic songs.
“From Sept 1, 2022, until May 31, 2023, the CMO has collected a royalty of RM59,381.62 for public or general performances of registered works,” he said at the royalty distribution ceremony, here, Wednesday.
“Based on this collection, RM34,063.10 of royalties would be distributed to 117 individual members and two recording company members.”
Ashraf said the balance of RM25,318.52 is the amount of unclaimed royalties, which will only be distributed to artists (members/non-members) in the second phase distribution expected in March.
