New SK Nexilis CEO’s visit strengthens cooperation

SK Nexilis’ new CEO’s inaugural visit to Sabah has strengthened bilateral cooperation, said State Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship (MIDE) Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Phoong received the newly-appointed CEO of SK Nexilis headquarters, Lyou Kwangmin, in a meeting at Hyatt Regency Hotel, here, Thursday.

In their discussions, Phoong reaffirmed the steadfast support of the Sabah Government, emphasising its dedication to fostering the ongoing prosperity of SK Nexilis’ operations within Sabah. 

He highlighted the integral connection between the success of SK Nexilis and the advancement of Sabah and Malaysia as a whole.

Drawing attention to SK Nexilis Malaysia’s noteworthy accomplishment of exporting its inaugural copper foil product for electric vehicles (EVs) with a value of RM1.9 million in October 2023, Phoong expressed desire to incentivise further investment from SK Nexilis, potentially amounting to an additional RM300 million injected into Sabah. 

“This strategic initiative aims to create employment opportunities for the local population,” Phoong said.

He underscored the Sabah Government’s unwavering commitment to expeditiously establishing essential infrastructure. 

“This infrastructure not only facilitates the expansion of SK Nexilis’ subsidiary investments but also caters to the broader needs of the Sabah community,” he added.

Phoong emphasised the pivotal role of industrial development in Sabah, stating that efforts must be concentrated on bolstering the State’s GDP through the industrial sector. 

“It is imperative for Sabah to capitalise on its abundant natural resources. MIDE remains steadfast in its dedication to attracting and facilitating high-value investments into the region,” he said. 

Also in attendance were Datuk Thomas Logijin, Permanent Secretary of MIDE Sabah, Lawrence G. Kimkuan, CEO of KKIP, Cecilia Amid, Deputy CEO of KKIP, and Shin Donghwan, CEO of SK Nexilis Malaysia.
