Kota Kinabalu: The State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (KePKAS) is targeting three million tourist arrivals in Sabah this year.
Its Minister Datuk Christina Liew said her Ministry set the target based on the encouraging achievement made last year.
“We will continue our efforts. As shown in 2023, we achieved the target which we initially set at 2.2 million tourists, but by the end of 2023 a total of 2.6 million tourists visited Sabah.
“I believe this year we will register 2.8 million to three million tourists,” she said, adding her Ministry will strive to achieve the target.
“I am confident that along with the launch of the Ministry’s new portfolios, namely Sabah My Second Home and Sabah Convention Bureau, this target will be achieved,” said Liew at the Tourism, Culture and Environmental Minister’s Chinese New Year luncheon with the media, here.
The event, which brought together media practitioners from around Kota Kinabalu, aimed to appreciate their efforts in helping to convey the latest information and all the Government’s efforts to develop Sabah.
Also present were KePKAS Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai who is also Chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board, KePKAS Permanent Secretary Josie Lai, Sabah Journalists Association (SJA) President Datuk Muguntan Vanar and Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) Chairman Jimmy Goh.
