Seats: Upko urges new method
Ewon said the discussion on seat distribution is crucial as it is no longer same coalition of parties compared to 2020.
Kota Kinabalu: United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (Upko) President Datuk Ewon Benedick said the seat allocation among component parties in the next State Election (PRN) should be distributed in a new way.

He said this is important to avoid claims for old seats and ensure the distribution of seats is done more fairly among all the component parties that work together in the next PRN.

“We know that all parties will present their views and demands.

“That’s why I say the discussion should be something fresh and new.

Upko is always open to discuss to find a point of agreement on the demands presented by each party.

“What is important is that a new party and the newly created coalition should not demand that just because the assemblyman moved to their party, then the seat should be given to the coalition,” he said, after officiating the Upko Zone E Convention (Sipitang and Labuan Federal Territory), at the Sabah Lundayeh Cultural Center, Sipitang, Staruday.

He said the discussion on seat distribution is crucial as it is no longer same coalition of parties compared to 2020.

“No one should be able to claim that a certain seat is theirs just because an assemblyman from another party moved to a new party and a new party coalition was formed after the state election.

Hence the discussion on political cooperation and seat distribution during the PRN should be a new discussion,” he reiterated.
