Kota Kinabalu: A Daily Express reporter sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident along the Kepayan-Lido flyover on Saturday.

Jonathan Nicholas, in his 30s, had just completed his first assignment and was enroute to another when it happened at 11.45am.

“I was picking up speed on the right lane when a queen-size mattress suddenly dislodged from a moving single-cab Toyota Hilux on the middle lane,” he said.

It is believed that the mattress was not properly attached to the vehicle resulting in its displacement into the road.

He said the accident showed the importance of following correct cargo securing methods for vehicles transporting items that may endanger road users if not properly fastened.

“Ensuring the safe transportation of goods is critical not only for the cargo’s safety, but also for averting mishaps that might result in injuries or even death,” Jonathan said.

He has since lodged a police report following hospital treatment for injuries to his face, arms and legs.
