KOTA MARUDU: The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Bandau Division demands that the Bandau State Constituency seat be returned to PBS.

PBS Bandau Division Youth Leader cum State PBS Youth Leader Junid Gunsalam said the seat was temporarily loaned to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the 16th State Election (PRN16).

Junid said the division discussed the matter during a meeting held at the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Office Operations Room, Simpang Tiga Langkon, here, recently.

“The Bandau PBS Division meeting unanimously decided to reclaim the Bandau State seat that was lent by the PBS President to Bersatu in the past PRN16,” he said.

The meeting was attended by 15 PBS Bandau Division Committee members chaired by its Deputy Head Julita Dalinsi.

Junid said the PBS division wants the Bandau seat to be contested by a GRS candidate from PBS in the upcoming PRN.

“PBS wants to continue the tradition of the party since 1985.

“The Bandau State seat, formerly known as DUN N6 Langkon, is a traditional PBS seat from 1985. In 1999, the Langkon State seat was abolished and then re-established in 2020 (PRN16) and given the name Bandau State seat.

“PBS Bandau Division has 107 branches with a total of 4,900 members throughout the Bandau State Constituency area,” he said.

Junid added that PBS Bandau has several new faces who hold the potential to win as PBS/GRS candidates in the upcoming PRN.

“The Bandau seat is now held by Datuk Wetrom Bahanda who won on the Bersatu/PN ticket in PRN16 with a majority of 3,363 votes.

“He later left Bersatu and joined the Social Democratic Harmony Party (KDM) and then became a candidate for Kota Marudu Parliament in the last general election and won on the KDM party ticket,” he said.
