Rural Tamu project to help small traders in East Malaysia
Ewon said the Prime Minister agreed that Kuskop will implement the initiative with an allocation of RM20 million from the 2024 Budget.
SIPITANG: The implementation of the rural tamu project by the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) beginning this year will provide infrastructure facilities for small entrepreneurs in rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said the Prime Minister agreed that Kuskop will implement the initiative with an allocation of RM20 million from the 2024 Budget.

“I propose to include in the 2024 Budget an allocation to build stalls for small entrepreneurs and upgrade facilities for rural tamus in Sabah and Sarawak. The Prime Minister agreed and provided an allocation of RM20 million for this initiative starting in 2024.

“At the National Level Hawkers and Petty Traders Day celebration in Penampang last January, the Prime Minister announced that Kuskop and I would be mandated to implement this initiative.

Ewon also launched the Koperasi Pusat Komuniti Lundayeh Sabah Berhad and subsequently approved an allocation of RM100,000 for the construction of a village tamu stalls.

Also present were Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah who is also the Malaysian Cocoa Board Chairman, Assemblyman Sindumin and Qhazanah Sabah Berhad Chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob, Malaysia Cooperative Commission CEO Rusli Jaafar and Koperasi Pusat Komuniti Lundayeh Sabah Berhad Chairman Datuk Pengiran Lalung.
