Community leaders to keep their posts: DCM

RANAU: Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim said that the State Cabinet has agreed that the positions of all customary holders be maintained.

“The Cabinet has decided that all the positions of traditional holders will continue except those who are sick and cannot work anymore, or there are other problems.

“If there is a request from any representative of the people in one place to make a replacement. The Ministry will consider,” he said.

Dr Joachim, who is also a member of the Kundasang State Legislative Assembly, said this at the Ceremony of Handing over Traditional Clothing to all the traditional leaders in the Kundasang State Assembly at Dewan Kampung Kimolohing, here, Thursday.

He commended the organisers who managed to bring together 100 traditional leaders consisting of Native Heads (KAN), Deputy Heads of Natives (WKAN), Chinese Community Leaders and Village Heads in Kundasang State Assembly.

He said, the event showed the Government’s concern for the needs of all, including traditional holders.

Meanwhile, in addition to this, he said the State Government also increased their allowance starting in September last year.

Because of that, he called on all traditional holders to continue to support the current ruling Government because they are also part of the machinery at the grassroots level to help the Government.

He reminded that as traditional holders they should carry out their duties responsibly and secure the atmosphere of the local community.

However, he said, his side will not hesitate to take action against those (customary holders) who criticise the Government.

Also present, Political Secretary to Dr Joachim, Yubidi Gompoyo; representative of the District Head, KAN Dualis Porodtong and Chairman of the Organising Council, KAN Dominic Ghani as well as staff of the Native Court, DUN Kundasang.
