Cockfighting: Two women among nine held

TAWAU: Two women were among nine suspects arrested in the Mile 5 Jalan Apas area for suspected involvement in illegal cockfighting activity at about 4pm, last Sunday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the arrest was made by the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division raid team during Operation Limau, based on information and intelligence carried out.

He said three local men and a woman aged 24 to 56 and four foreign men in their 20s to 50s were arrested along with a 44-year-old woman holding a temporary identity card (MyKAS).
“Further inspection found that two of the foreigners did not have any valid travel documents, but did not have any past criminal records,” he said.
Jasmin said the police also confiscated cash amounting to RM1,200 and six roosters, believed to be used in the gambling activities.
He said that all the suspects and the confiscated items were taken to the Tawau IPD for further action.

He added that the case was investigated in accordance with Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Jasmin stressed that the police will not compromise with any individual who commits a crime and will take legal action accordingly.

He called on the public with relevant information to bring it to the nearest police station or call the hotline 089-772121 or through the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.
