Jailed, fined for assaulting Filipina and her child
Ridzuan was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was jailed eight months and fined RM1,000 or two months in jail, for assaulting a Filipina and her child.

Ridzuan Roslan, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to voluntarily causing hurt to Jennifer Simbajon Reducto at 9am on Jan 1, this year, at the Putatan Platinum Apartment.

Ridzuan was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.

The prosecution told the court that Ridzuan assaulted Jennifer and her child on their way home from the pharmacy by pulling her hair and hitting both her and her child on the head and the back of their bodies using a padlock.

Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Ridzuan, requested leniency, while the prosecution applied for a deterrent sentence.

The court ordered Ridzuan to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In another case, three people were fined a total of RM4,800, or three months jail, for engaging in gambling activities.

Noor Suryantie Jasilin, 23, Alvin Kibin, 32, and Rafidah Rahmat, 25, who separately appeared before Magistrate Stephanie and Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali, pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

Suryantie was fined RM1,000 or a month in jail for engaging in online gambling sessions in public at 2.15pm on Dec 12, last year in front of Ros Restaurant, Donggongon, Penampang.

She was charged under Section 7(2) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of RM5,000 or up to six months in jail for both, on conviction.

Alvin and Rafidah were each found having gambling paraphernalia illegally.

Alvin was fined RM2,000 or a month in jail, while Rafidah was fined RM1800 or a month in jail for committing the offence in Penampang on Jan 24, at 3pm and 3.50pm, respectively.

Alvin and Rafidah were charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction. Counsel Khoo, representing the trio, requested for a lenient fine.
