Jail and fine for drink-driving
The two were charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport (Amendment) Act 2020, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and fine between RM10,000 and RM30,000 and disqualification from holding or getting a driving licence for not less than two years from the date of conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed a day each and fined a total of RM22,000 by the Traffic Court here Wednesday for drink-driving.

Justin Joutin, 29, and Joseph Sabinus, 27, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrates Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali and Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence.

Justin was sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM12,000 for committing the offence at 12.30am on Feb 11, 2023 at Jalan Bundusan in front of the Petron kiosk, Penampang.

Joseph was handed a day’s jail and fined RM10,000 or three months jail for the offence committed at 1.50am on Oct 15, 2022 at Jalan Lintas Kopungit, here.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was fined RM5,000 or one-week jail for exhibiting a plate number on his motorcycle which did not belong to the machine.

Mohd Hairul Hapid admitted before Stephanie to committing the offence at 11.15pm on Sept 17, 2022 at Jalan Tun Razak traffic light.

He was charged under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 or a jail term between one year and five year or both, on conviction.

Traffic Prosecuting Officers Inspector Mohammad Khairul Nizam Mokhtar and Inspector Mohd Firdaus Che Mustafa prosecuted.
