Kota Kinabalu: The International Sabah Open Darts Tournament held in conjunction with the Kota Kinabalu City 24th Anniversary celebration is going to be expanded on a larger scale next year.
Mayor Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said this after the success of this year’s tournament started on Friday at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall which has attracted more than 100 teams including from Brunei and the Philippines.
He said that the staging the three-day tournament is one of City Hall’s efforts in giving recognition to the local darts community.
“Sports is one of the most powerful mediums in uniting the community regardless of rank, age, gender and race.
“A fit and active life is important for the health of the body and will in turn produce an intelligent and creative mind.
“The participation of teams from abroad involving Brunei and the Philippines proved that this tournament has achieved its goal as it will indirectly attract more foreign participants to visit the State.
“After this we will hold discussion to further expand this tournament next year,” he said in his speech read by DBKK director general Junainah Abbie.
