BEAUFORT: A man was arrested after he was found in possession of syabu at the Menumbok Ferry Terminal area on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old suspect was arrested with syabu worth RM5,000 before he could board the ferry to Labuan.
Beaufort District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said the arrest was made by the Beaufort Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at 8.30pm.
According to him, the suspect had just got out of a Perodua Axia that stopped at a roadside near the terminal.
“Further inspections found a plastic bag inside the suspect’s right shorts pocket containing chunks of crystal clear substance suspected to be syabu weighing 52.42gm,” he said.
Police also seized the vehicle driven by the suspect under the Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
“The suspect was detained under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“His (suspect) urine also tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and ketamine,” he said.
According to Ismail, further investigations showed the suspect had 15 previous arrest records. These include three cases under Section 39A(1), six cases under Section 12(3), six cases under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 379 A of the Penal Code,” he said.
