SANDAKAN: A total of 500kg of garbage consisting of plastic were successfully collected from mangroves at the Trash To Cash Programme organised by the Sekong PGRS Youth wing together with the Batu Sapi Parliament Office in Kampung Bonggaya Baru, Jalan Batu Sapi, here, Sunday.

The programme also involves Bonggaya Baru Batu Sapi residents.

PGRS Sekong Youth Chief, Rozaizar Rozaini, said organisers buy plastic and iron waste materials from the residents, helping them generate a side income.

“Each kilogramme of plastic waste will be charged RM0.40 while iron will be purchased at a price of RM0.50 per kilogramme.

The goal of the programme, among others, is to keep the village clean as well as help the residents generate additional income from similar programmes,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation to all those involved in making the programme a success.
