Kuala Lumpur: The digital ministry is looking into claims that the “security infrastructure” of the national population and family development board (LPPKN) has been hacked and data stolen by a group known as ROOTK1T, minister Gobind Singh Deo said.

He added that he would respond after obtaining the details.

Yesterday, Lowyat.net reported that the central database hub (Padu) and LPPKN’s “security infrastructure” were compromised, and that the group had stolen more than 27TB worth of data from LPPKN servers.

However, the online forum later said the affected Padu database was LPPKN’s management and service delivery unit, not the one under the economy ministry.

Meanwhile, Gobind reiterated that the Cabinet would discuss the establishment of a gig economy commission, as mooted by deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“It is something that has been raised by Zahid. We will bring it to the Cabinet and see how we can expand moving forward. We want to see how we can create the mechanism to strengthen this economic sector,” he told the media.
