Kota Kinabalu: The 50-year-old woman who was brutally assaulted and robbed in the back alley of a building on Friday is recuperating from her injuries.

“My back is full of bruises due to my repeated fall during the assault,” said Wong, adding the incident actually happened behind Jesselton Hotel in Jalan Gaya and not in the back alley of a bank.

The woman, who works at a bank, said she left her house early as usual to get a parking space in the city.

She parked behind the hotel and was walking when the incident happened around 6.30am.

Meanwhile, Nazri, a 32-year-old hotel worker, said this was the first time such incident happened near the building.

He claimed to have seen the stick believed used in the robbery-cum-assault, which has been recovered by the police,” he said.

The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, according to Acting City Police Chief Supt Kalsom Idris in a statement on Monday.

Footages of the incident started making its round on social media on Monday, drawing public concern over the brazen nature of the crime.
