Kota Kinabalu: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin called on young State athletes to work hard and take their training seriously if they want to become successful.

He said this as he shared his experience as a former national sprinter in the 80’s to a group of athletes from Sabah State Taekwon-Do Association (ITF) led by its president Ade Rizal Pahlevi Mohd Zen who paid him a visit at the ministry on Tuesday.

The courtesy call was to inform the Minister that the State body will be sending a total of 27 athletes to compete in the 2024 Hwa Rang Warrior International Taekwon-Do Championship to be held at Titiwangsa Stadium, Kuala Lumpur from February 29-March 3.

“To be a champion, you must have a quality of high seriousness and commitment, especially in each training session.

Meanwhile, Ade Rizal said the athletes aged 7-18 will be taking part in the sparring and poomsae events based on the age category.

He added that the contingent would be led by one team manager, two head coaches and seven assistant coaches.

Also present at the meeting were Youth and Sports Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Mansur  Asun, Sabah Sports Council’s development officer Ramzaineh Minen and other officials.
