Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) found a fish seller suspected of placing prohibited dyes at the Inanam Market on Monday Night.
Director General of DBKK, Junainah Abbie, said the fish sample was taken to the laboratory by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) for testing.
She said the report on the samples taken would be notified by the Ministry of Health to the City Environmental Health Department (JKPB) for further action.
“The operation of the Hawker Management Division together with the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) and the City Environmental Health Department (JKPB) DBKK was carried out from 7pm to 9.30pm.
“We are still waiting for a detailed report by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) laboratory which will most likely be obtained soon.
“If it is proven then strict action will be taken against the fish trader involved,” she said in a media statement.
Junainah said a four-member operation involving the DBKK Licensing Department’s Hawker Division was led by Hassim Musa while DBKK’s JKPB six-member personnel led by Adrian Ijom tracked traders who failed to comply with the bylaws.
“The Malaysian Ministry of Health that participated in the operation consisted of seven officers led by Rozita Ibrahim to track down stubborn traders based on reports from the public,” explained Junainah.
According to her, DBKK together with KKM will further expand the operation to ensure that fish traders comply with the law and do not use prohibited colouring that may endanger the health of consumers.
