Kota Kinabalu: Some 150 underprivileged children (asnaf) in Sepanggar and Kota Kinabalu zones received assistance through the Back-To-School Programme
organised by the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis).
Assistant Secretary (Asnaf Development) of Muis, Saludan @ Suzika Suhul, said the annual programme managed by the Zakat and Fitrah Division of Muis was held with the aim of easing the burden on families in preparing children of the asnaf group for school session which begins March 11.
“This programme is divided into seven zones and each zone has 250 asnaf allocated with each recipient receiving RM300 aid in the form of school supplies,” he said
at one of the supermarkets in Likas on Wednesday.
Suzika added that so far programme started from Kudat, Tawau, Sandakan, Papar and Kota Kinabalu zones.
After this, he said, a similar programme would be held in Beaufort and Lahad Datu zones expected on March 10.
Meanwhile, one of the recipients’ mother, Muridah Amir, 43, expressed her gratitude for the assistance received from Muis.
The single mother believed the aid would ease her financial burden in preparing the school equipment for her daughter Anidah Ali Shah, 13, who is also a disabled
student to enter secondary school when school opens.
Also happy with the aid is SMK Pulau Gaya student Nursyaminah Abdullah, 14.
Nursyaminah praised Muis for the effort in channelling zakat collection to the needy.
According to Nursyaminah, this effort is very coincidental and hoped the program could be expanded to other groups of asnaf in the future.
