KOTA IKINABALU: The Sabah Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Shareda) aims to donate 30 rainwater harvesting tanks to the State Fire and Rescue Department.
Its President Datuk Chua Soon Ping said the first 10 400-gallon water tanks have been delivered to the Sembulan Fire and Rescue Station for distribution to other nearby stations.
He said Shareda members are sponsoring the tanks to provide more options for firefighters in case of low water pressure at the hydrants rather than obtaining water from the river or sea.
“Rainwater harvesting tanks can help reduce the impact of flooding if every house has one to collect water and prevent drain-off to sea.
“It will also reduce the consumption of water and thus save cost, as well as ensuring water when there is a disruption in supply,” said Chua, adding the 10 tanks were donated by his company, Remajaya Sdn Bhd.
Chua said Shareda members in Tawau and Sandakan would sponsor the other 20 tanks, with each district fire and rescue station receiving 10 tanks.
