Zahid withdraws Dewan Rakyat motion to suspend Wan Saiful
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi withdrew the motion after Speaker Johari Abdul gave Wan Saiful Wan Jan a chance to explain himself.
Kuala Lumpur: Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has withdrawn his motion to suspend Wan Saiful Wan Jan (PN-Tasek Gelugor) from the Dewan Rakyat for accusing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of abuse of power.

Zahid withdrew the motion after Speaker Johari Abdul gave Wan Saiful a chance to explain himself.

Wan Saiful said he had apologised to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Anwar for his speech.

“Corruption means abuse of power. And he who abuses his power meets with His Majesty every week before the Cabinet meeting,” the Bersatu leader allegedly said in his debate on the royal address on Feb 28.

According to the motion, Zahid said Wan Saiful’s remark implicitly accused the prime minister of being a leader who abuses his power.

He also said Wan Saiful had cast unfounded aspersions on the prime minister even though the Speaker repeatedly directed him not to make such statements.

Today, Wan Saiful reiterated his withdrawal of his statement.

“I reiterate once again, as done in the House on Feb 29, that I withdraw that statement. I also apologise for making such a statement,” he said.

“If (the statement) had touched on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, I would also like to apologise and withdraw that statement.”

Johari accepted the apology and said he considered the issue resolved.
