Two Sarawakian brothers claim trial over drugs
The charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
Kota Kinabalu: Two Sarawakian brothers claimed trial in the High Court here with trafficking 1,582.82gm of cannabis.

Unemployed Chin Jin Kim, 23, and runner Chin Jin Yu, 30, who was brought before Judicial Commissioner Datuk Faridz Gohim Abdullah pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at 7.40pm on Sept 26, last year, at Block E of Phase 5, Beverly Hills, Penampang.

The court set March 25 for pre-trial case management and ordered the accused to be further remanded as the charges against them have no provision for bail.

Rohaida pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 7.10pm, on Feb 7, in a premises at Sadong Jaya.

She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.

Police arrested Rohaida who was seen behaving suspiciously and seized the gambling paraphernalia, including a handphone and RM100 cash.

In another case, an unemployed man was sentenced to a month’s jail for having properties believed to be stolen.

Walter Kuya, 38, admitted to having two rolls of copper wire, pliers and a lighter, which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them at 7am on March 2, by the roadside of Tuaran bypass, Bandar Putra, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 22A of the Minor Offences Ordinance provides for a fine of RM100 or up to three months jail or both, on conviction.
