Kota Kinabalu: Police have ordered the closure of a fun fair in Likas pending safety evaluation after two people sustained serious injuries during a fun ride at one of its attractions.

A 35-year-old man sustained injuries to his head after he and a woman were thrown 15 meters from a spinning octopus ride on Wednesday night.

City police Chief ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the man required surgery while the 29-year-old woman sustained injuries on her face.

Videos of the incident that went viral showed a man with a badly bruised face lying motionless on the ground near metal posts.

The woman was seen writhing in pain as she tried to wipe her bloodied face. An ambulance rushed them to Queen Elizabeth Hospital II.

The management of the funfair was ordered to inspect again the safety of its rides.

“Investigations are ongoing under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering human life or the personal safety of others,” said Mohd Zaidi.

The funfair which began operating on Feb. 2 operated from 6pm to 12am until March 10.
