THE inaugural Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Mini Carnival attracted about 3,000 visitors.
Youth Chief Datuk Fairuz Renddan, who is also Assistant Youth and Sports Minister, said the programme hosted by the party’s Youth, Women Youth and Women wings aimed to bring the community closer together.
“We did not expect the response to be overwhelming,” he said.
Aside from vendor booths and food trucks, there were activities such as colouring contests, arm wrestling and street soccer tournaments, among others. Among the programmes well-received by the public was free haircuts for school children, for which about 300 children registered.
On Gagasan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s recommendation that the carnival be extended to other districts, Fairuz said the programme would be held in 74 areas - 73 State constituencies and one in Labuan.
“We will aim for rural areas so that they do not have to travel far to town areas for the event – we will go to them. And maybe we will hold a bigger carnival. Today’s (Saturday) event can be deemed as a warm-up.
