PAPAR: A 48-year-old motorcyclist died after being hit from by a lorry along KM5 Jalan Papar-Beaufort, here, Sunday.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the incident occurred when the victim overtook a lorry while heading towards Kota Kinabalu at about 2.20pm.
“The 30-year-old lorry driver was travelling towards Kota Kinabalu from Lawas when the motorcyclist attempted to overtake the bigger vehicle.
“Due to the short distance, the driver could not brake in time which led him to hit the rear side of the deceased’s motorcycle,” he said.
Following the collision, the victim was thrown off his motorcycle before being dragged below the lorry. Both machines came to a stop after crashing into a nearby electric pole.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead by Papar Hospital Assistant Medical Officer who was at the scene while the driver and passenger escaped unscathed.
The body was brought to Papar Hospital Forensic Unit for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, a team comprising six personnel led by Senior Office Henry Hilarion from the Papar Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene after being notified at 2.34pm.
The department’s spokesperson said the team immediately carried out an operation to extricate the victim, identified as Moksin Aduruk, who was stuck under the lorry.
The victim’s body was handed to the police for further action and the operation ended at 3.47pm.
