KALABAKAN: The body of a man who was reported to have been attacked by a crocodile while searching for lokan in Kg Mangga, here, was discovered on Sunday, the second day of the search effort.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said the remains of Asmadi Harun, 57, had been found 500m from where he was last seen.
“The body was found at 4.30am by residents of Kg Sungai Ulu Kalabakan who joined in the search using three boats,” he said, adding that police had sent the body to the Tawau Hospital Forensic Unit before his team arrived.
"No operation was carried out and our team only gathered information at the scene,” he said.
The team initially received a distress call at 4.35pm last Saturday about a crocodile attack.
The victim was said to have gone to the Kalabakan River with two family members to look for lokan.
Two fire and rescue personnel were deployed to the scene to obtain information before the search and rescue was carried out.
Also there to assist were those from the Kalabakan Fire and Rescue Volunteer Team, Civil Defence Force, police and villagers.
