Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) submitted business zakat amounting to RM3,029,624 for the year 2022 to the Sabah Religious Islamic Council (Muis).
The Zakat was submitted by SESB Chief Executive Officer, Ir Ts Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, to Muis Supreme Council Member, Dr Aliakbar Gulasan, which was witnessed by Head of State, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
Also present were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister (Religious Affairs), Datuk Ruslan Muharam, SESB Senior General Manager (Asset Management), Ir Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof and Chief Financial Officer of SESB, Mohamed Fadil Mohd Fadhlullah.
Mohd Yaakob said the 12.5 per cent received back in the form of wakalah zakat will be distributed to recipients, including asnaf groups, charitable homes and Islamic houses of worship, among others.
“For the upcoming month of Ramadan, several activities had been planned, such as the breaking of fast ceremonies and presenting wakalah zakat to orphans and the underprivileged, along with appropriate assistance.
“This assistance is not limited to Ramadan. We extend it throughout the year.
“For example, through the People-Friendly Assistance Programme, SESB has initiated the Poor People’s Housing Programme (PPRT). Four such houses had been handed over to the needy,” he said told the media Istana Seri Kinabalu.
