Sabah PKR chairman says won’t step down
“Sazalye’s (left) malicious accusations have not only embarrassed the party but will also hinder work in preparing for the coming elections," Sangkar (right) said.
Kota Kinabalu: PKR Sabah Chairman Datuk Dr Sangkar Rasam insists the 15 state division chiefs opposing his leadership do not reflect the true views of the grassroots.

He also described Kota Marudu PKR Chief Sazalye Donol’s statement that all he did was host feasts for visiting national leaders while neglecting the Sabah chapter’s empowerment as slander.

“Over the past years PKR Sabah had been organising events involving members from all corners often attended by representatives of the Prime Minister’s Office.

“Sazalye’s malicious accusations have not only embarrassed the party but will also hinder work in preparing for the coming elections.

“We must continue to be united in focusing on the development agenda and the welfare of Sabahans, instead of creating internal unrest which only wastes the time of those sincerely working for the party,” he said.

He also said he is not moved by the 15 purported statutory declarations of non-support but would continue to fulfill the duties vested upon him by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PKR president, with full responsibility and integrity.

He said it is not the first time there is internal turmoil in Sabah PKR and stepping down without any issues of interest to the people would not prevent recurrence.

“The party machinery is now ready to face the next state elections and I am committed to ensuring that as Chairman.

“We will achieve an increase in seats for PKR to remain an important role in steering the state government.

“I call all to put the interests of the people above those of certain parties so that we continue to work together to strengthen the party’s integrity,” he said.

PKR Sabah Secretary Simsudin Sidek also said the party is solid under Sangkar’s leadership and that the latter’s appointment in 2022 was constitutional, mandated by the party’s president.
