BEAUFORT: The district Fire and Rescue Department deployed a helicopter to extinguish a 35-acre peat fire in Kg Takuli, here, on Monday.
Beaufort Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Hasbullah Nenggok said the operation involved 19 firefighters
“The team has so far extinguished 10 acres of fire by direct, total flooding and water bombing approaches.
“Peat fires are harder to extinguish than forest fires.
Our team needs time to rest before resuming operations,” he said, adding the operation involved firemen from Beaufort, Kuala Penyu and Kimanis.
Muhammad Hasbullah said the Department requested the assistance of a Sarawak helicopter to carry out water bombing measures to put out the fire.
“Several floating pumps were also used to suck water from drains to put out the fire,” he said, adding the fire was brought under control by 4.50pm.
The public are reminded not to engage in opening burning activities.
